Jalloo will be screening submissions from animators all over, with a special focus on animators from the Atlantic region (but not exclusively).  Animations may be 2D, 3D, stop motion, or any other form of animation.

Cash prizes:

    $100 each for top 2D student short, top 3D student short.
    $200 each for top 2D professional short, top 3D professional short
    $200 for audience favourite

CEO Intern Needed for Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce

Internship Description: The primary goal of the internship is to assist the Chamber staff in the registration and marketing for Kalamazoo Chamber events as well as daily operations and functions. As an intern, you will be part of the Administrative Team and assist Chamber staff in providing networking events, education programs, and communications for members and the community. Projects include:
v  Communication with members 
v  Research on special projects for CEO 
v  Assisting with the Board of Directors meetings and councils and affiliated with community organizations, and events
 
Semesters needed:  Fall, Spring, and Summer
 
Hours per week:  A minimum of 15 hours per week is required. Scheduling is flexible.
 
Credit/Compensation: College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives is available through pre-approval of the department within institution.
 
Desired skills and qualifications:  

v Majors in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational    Communication are preferred

v Motivated, forward-thinking individual who loves facing challenges and learning new skills

v Interest in gaining experience in such areas as business communication, meeting planning, marketing, public relations, program development, project management, research, etc.

v Excellent communication skills, including phone skills and writing

v Ability to handle research assignments, manage multiple tasks      simultaneously and work independently

v Familiarity and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

v Ability to influence others and communicate skills and qualifications

Two WMU FVM majors are finalists in national “World Press Freedom” competition


Two of our FVMS students, Wil Granaderos and Cassandra Stagner, are finalists in a national PSA (public service announcement) competition sponsored by CNN and Reporters Without Borders (see message below).  They made the PSA on their own, outside of class.  It’s called “World Press Freedom.”

Reporters Without Borders USA, CNN and the Ford Foundation are pleased to announce the five finalists of the “For Press Freedom” Video Contest, a nationwide competition challenging university students to create a video PSA. The winning video will be aired on CNN on World Press Freedom Day, May 3, 2012.

 

The five finalists are:

 

- Michelle Frantino’s team - Stony Brook University
- Renca Dunn’s team - American University
- Alexandra Nguyen’s team - Wichita State University
- Ashley Hudson’s team  - Middle Tennessee State University
- Cassandra Stagner’s team - Western Michigan University

The international jury of journalists and human rights defenders will select the winning video based on quality, creativity, message and impact. The winning video will be announced on April 19. The winners will be invited to attend the World Press Freedom Day party at CNN in New York where they will be awarded for their video among journalists and human rights activists. The “For Press Freedom” video contest is made possible by a grant from the Ford Foundation.

The jury members will include CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, CNN executive vice-president and managing editor Mark Whitaker, Calvin Sims from the Ford Foundation, Reporters Without Borders executive director Olivier Basille, Reports Without Borders USA chairman Peter O. Price, Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi, Bashana Abeywardane of Sri Lanka’s Journalists for Democracy, Bahraini journalist Nada Alwadi and Academy Award nominated documentary filmmaker of Hell and Back again Danfung Dennis.

*Internship objective:

Assist in the promotion of Senior Services of Southwest Michigan through the production (researching, writing, designing) of varying marketing communications materials, including the quarterly agency newsletter, press releases, social media posts, website updates, appeals and administrative activities as assigned.

*About the interning organization:

Founded in 1963, Senior Services is the area’s largest and most comprehensive, independent non-profit human services agency devoted to older adults and their caregivers. The programs offered include: Meals on Wheels, In-Home Care, Home Repair, MI Choice Medicaid Waiver, Behavioral Health Services and Volunteer Services.

Senior Services mission is to promote and enhance the independence and well being of older adults, adults with disabilities and those who care for them.

*Description of intern responsibilities:

1.     Assist in the production, design and distribution of the agency’s quarterly newsletter.

 

2.     Create and distribute to agency media list a regular issue of press releases under the guidance and direction of the position supervisor.

 

3.     Update marketing and information databases by inputting data from materials provided by supervisor and as appropriate; compile, consolidate, format, and summarize information, and graphs.

 

4.     Assemble materials, videos, slide shows, booklets, and brochures as requested

 

5.     Assist in preparation of mailers and brochures by formatting content and graphics

 

6.     Enhance and support internet communication used by the agency including Website and Facebook sites.

 

7.     Provide marketing tracking and research information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.

 

8.     Assist in the planning and implementation of marketing strategy, including advertising and communications.

 

9.     Support Implementation of customer service support and development.

 

10.  Maintain Senior Services image and reputation, and protect and develop the company’s brands via suitable communications activities

 

11.  Support internal communications and awareness of agency direction, mission, aims and activities.

 

12.  Catalog storage of presentations, materials and activities of the agency on marketing and communications to provide easy availability.

 

13.  Research proposal development.

 

14.  Assist agency programs in the development and use of marketing tools

*** Please note that all letters of offer, internship applications, position descriptions, verification of hours worked and intern evaluations shall be signed by a full-time employee or campus advisor. A student may not be supervised for internship credit by a graduate or undergraduate student.

Credit:  College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives.  One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work up to 6 credit hours.

Evaluation:   The evaluation and grade will be completed by Internship Coordinator Marilyn Kritzman and will be based upon the following: 

v The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities 

v The student’s copy of all work produced

v The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives

v Final paper 

v The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation

v The internship sponsor final evaluation

 

 

 

 

 

Method of Evaluation:

v Student’s journal/log: 20%

v Student’s work: 20 %

v Paper: 20%

v Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%

v Internship sponsor final evaluation: 20%

 

Calendar:

v E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every month.

v Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed

v All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.

v Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship

v Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday of finals week with the rest of the material.  The evaluation may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.
